Custom business systems

Serious software.
Built around your business.

We specify your system with you, build exactly what you approve, and run it on dedicated AWS infrastructure reserved for your business alone. Twenty years of regulated software, applied to the way your business works.

Building clinical research systems with QuesGen since 2006

A different model

We built a SaaS company. That is how we know the model has run its course.

For twenty years we sold software the SaaS way: one shared platform, configured for each customer, billed per seat. It made sense when custom software was slow and expensive. AI-assisted engineering changed that. Today we can specify and build a system for your business in less time than it takes to configure someone else's product around it.

Here is what the pricing page of a SaaS company never says out loud: the company is valued on its recurring revenue, so the subscription is priced to grow that number — not to reflect what serving you actually costs. Per-seat fees rise with your headcount, renewals ratchet upward, and the harder the product is to leave, the more the annuity is worth. You aren't just the customer. You are the asset. We priced software that way for two decades, and we stopped. Our prices reflect the cost of the work: a build priced to its scope, operations priced to the server they run on.

Comparison point Typical SaaS Jarrett Group
Fit You configure their product: add fields, pick dropdown values, work around the gaps. We write a full specification with you and build exactly that.
Infrastructure Shared instance, your data alongside other customers'. Your own web server and database, in a dedicated AWS account no other client touches.
Web address Your team signs in at yourcompany.saasvendor.com. Your system lives on your domain: portal.yourcompany.com. You point the DNS; we handle the rest.
Pricing Per seat. Every hire raises the bill. Priced by server size. Add users without changing the contract.
Data In the vendor's database. In a dedicated database that serves only your organization.
Leaving Export file, migration project, contract penalties. The dedicated AWS account transfers to you; the system keeps running.

How we build

You see the system before we build it.

  1. Specify.

We work with the people who do the job and document how the work really flows. The result is a complete specification: screens, data, rules, roles, reports.

  2. Approve.

You review the specification and a working prototype, and receive a firm, fixed price for that scope. Nothing is built until you sign off.

  3. Build.

We build exactly what you approved, using AI-assisted engineering with human-reviewed code and automated testing.

  4. Verify and launch.

Each release is tested against the specification, then deployed to your dedicated infrastructure. Data from your old system is migrated and your team is trained.

On AI

AI is how we engineer, and it is why a custom system is now practical. It does not have to be part of your running application. If you want AI features inside the system, we build them with human review on every decision. If you do not, your data never touches a model.

Dedicated infrastructure

Your system runs alone. Nothing is shared.

Every client gets a separate AWS account, managed by us and reserved for your system alone. Inside it: a dedicated front-end web server, a dedicated Amazon RDS database, and encrypted backups. No other client's data, code or traffic touches your environment. One client's problem can never become yours.

Because the account serves only you, it runs in whichever AWS region your obligations require — the United States, the United Kingdom, the EU, or elsewhere. Data residency is a configuration choice, not a negotiation.

  • A dedicated AWS account, one per client — transferred to you if you ever leave
  • Your choice of AWS region, so your data lives where your rules say it must
  • Your own domain, like portal.yourcompany.com — not a vendor's URL
  • Dedicated web server, sized to your needs
  • Dedicated RDS database, encrypted at rest
  • Encrypted backups with tested restores
Each client runs in its own AWS account Your team, any number of users, connects to a dedicated AWS account reserved for your system. Inside the account: a dedicated web server sized to you, a dedicated encrypted RDS database, and encrypted backups with tested restores. Outside the account, Jarrett Group monitoring connects through scoped, logged access. Compliance and security

Compliance is the first requirement, not a feature.

We come from clinical research, where systems are audited and failures have consequences. Every system we build starts from that standard. We have delivered and operated systems subject to HIPAA, 21 CFR Part 11 and FERPA, and we build to that standard of control everywhere.

Audit trail

Who changed what, when and why, on every record.

Encryption

In transit and at rest, with managed keys and secrets kept out of the codebase.

Role-based access

Permissions inside the application. Scoped, logged access for our engineers.

Validated releases

Every change tested against the specification and documented.

Recovery plan

Automated backups, tested restores, and a documented plan you hold.

Operations

Operated, monitored and kept current.

Your system runs on AWS's own security and monitoring tools, connected to our monitoring platform. We watch it continuously and act when something needs attention.

Continuous automated monitoring

Availability, performance and security events, watched around the clock by automated tooling.

Servers rebuilt monthly

On current, patched images, and immediately when a threat appears.

Always on supported versions

Systems under our care never drift onto outdated software.

One bill

You pay us; we handle AWS. Hosting, monitoring and operations in one monthly fee.

Your rights

We don't hold your business hostage.

We hope you stay. But your system should never depend on our goodwill. If you decide to leave, here is what you keep:

  • The AWS account. Dedicated to your system from day one. We transfer it to you, you take over the billing, and everything keeps running.
  • Your data, where it has always been, in your own database.
  • The right to change the source code, yourself or with any developer you choose.
  • The right to transfer it if your business is sold or changes ownership.
  • The right to run it yourself. Leave our monitoring agreement at any time, with a documented handoff.

Pricing

Priced by server size. Never per user.

You choose the infrastructure; we run it. User counts are sizing guidance, not limits. Portal and client users are always free. The monthly fee covers AWS hosting, monitoring and operations — it reflects what running your system actually costs, not a revenue line we hope to own forever.

What it looks like in practice

Three engagements, priced both ways.

A custom system has two cost components: a one-time build (specification through launch) and a flat monthly fee for your server configuration. SaaS has one component that never ends. Year one is where the two are comparable — every year after is where they are not.

A 20-person law firm replaces per-seat practice management

Leading legal practice-management platforms publish list prices of roughly $49 to $149 per user per month before add-ons. Call it $119 for a mid-tier plan across 20 people.

Jarrett Group figures: illustrative build + Medium configuration.

Period Typical SaaS Jarrett Group
Year one incl. build $28,560 $23,940
Every year after $28,560 $8,940
Over 3 years $85,680 $41,820

A 12-advisor wealth-management firm leaves a per-seat CRM

The dominant financial-services CRM lists at $325 per user per month. Twelve advisors and staff is $46,800 a year — every year, and more with every hire.

Jarrett Group figures: illustrative build + Medium configuration.

Period Typical SaaS Jarrett Group
Year one incl. build $46,800 $26,940
Every year after $46,800 $8,940
Over 3 years $140,400 $44,820

A research group moves its registry off a quoted-per-study platform

Commercial clinical-data platforms are quoted per study, and even small deployments commonly land in the tens of thousands per year. Call it $35,000 — with site coordinators often billed as users. With us, portal users are free.

Jarrett Group figures: illustrative build + Large configuration.

Period Typical SaaS Jarrett Group
Year one incl. build $35,000 $35,540
Every year after $35,000 $15,540
Over 3 years $105,000 $66,620

Hypothetical examples, not quotes. SaaS figures reflect published list prices or typical quoted ranges as of October 2026 and exclude implementation fees. Our build figures are illustrative; your actual build price is fixed in writing after the specification. No claim of equivalent functionality is implied.

Who we are

Twenty years of systems people depend on.

Jarrett Group is led by Mike Jarrett, founder of QuesGen Systems. Since 2006, QuesGen has built and operated clinical research data systems for academic medical centers and clinical research networks, where security, privacy and audit requirements are as strict as any industry's. Mike began his career in technology consulting at Arthur Andersen.

We ran a SaaS business for two decades. We know its incentives from the inside: the renewal increases, the shared roadmap, the contract built to make leaving hard. Jarrett Group exists to offer the alternative.
